monumental village located in the Eastern part of the island, between puig de Pollensa and puig del Calvari, which is accessed by its via crucis, which is composed of 365 steps representing the days of the year, surrounded by cypress trees and on which summit is the chapel.
Taking a stroll around, one will be able to find the church and convent of Santo Domingo, where the remains of Joan Más (1520-1607) lie. He was given the status of hero because of his fight against the Arabs. In all festivals; the fight between the Christians and Muslims is ritually represented. At the plaza de l'Almoina one finds the Font des Gall, the symbol of the town. Even in Pollença there exist certain buildings that belong to the Roman period, the bridge towards the harbour, being an example of the latter.
Just five kilometres from town, the port of Pollença, fishermen and holidaymakers place, is located. its beaches dominate the bay, which is limited on the north Cape Formentor and on the south by Cape Pinar. From this point, one can start excursions to Formentor and Cala San Vicente. The latter offers the impressive and huge mass of the Cavall Bernat.
Cape Formentor
Cape Formentor sits in the northern most tip of Majorca (Mallorca) and offers impressive sea cliffs and virgin beaches such as Cala Figuera, Cala Murta and Cala Pi de la Posada, accessible only by the sea. The road from Port de Pollença (Puerto Pollensa) is the work of engineer Antonio Parietti; through it, we arrive at the Mal Pas viewpoint where the d'Es Colomer islet can be seen. When poet Miguel Costa i Llobera, owner of the Formentor's peninsula, died; it was sold in lots. In 1928, Adán Diehl of Argentinean origin and art lover, decided to built Hotel Formentor and allocate profits aroused from its operation to the art world. It is since a meeting point for the celebrities of the world. Moving down the road, we get to the lighthouse, having an unlimited horizon as the limit to our vision. On clear days, one may see the neighbouring island of Menorca. In short, a paradise surrounded by the sea where fauna such as the wild mountain goats (protected specie) and vegetation are in pure state.
Puerto Pollença (Puerto Pollensa)
Puerto Pollensa is the tourist part and where the beach resides. Notably smaller than the town, the beach is perfect place for lay and relax as well as for the children. Plenty of restaurants and bars, there you will be able to have a typical mallorcan meal or just a quick sandwich. The most of the hotels at the front side of the sea were built during the 60's with tourist "revolution" of Mallorca and still retain an old fashioned air, and so do the restaurants. However, if you do not like hotels, there are also a lot of holiday villas, holiday apartments and beautiful farmhouses on the countryside for rent in Pollensa and in Puerto Pollensa.
The beach, surrounded by the green of the mountains and its cliffs, longs until it finds Alcudia and at the end of this you will find a perfect place for water sport lovers and so. Many people practices here windsurfing, kite and wake board and other water sports such as jet ski. There are also along the Port some water sports centres so if you want to have some quick lessons it will not be difficult to find a time spot for you. For those wondering, Puerto Pollensa's beach longs for 3.900 metres and is around 40 wide, with white thin sand. However, and because of its location on the north of the island, sometimes it is a bit windy and there are some moderate waves.
During the night there is not really so much to do, but Alcudia and Puerto of Alcudia are not far away and there you will find enough places to enjoy if by any chance you decide to break out for while from Pollensa's paradise
